EA Motive head speaks on upcoming Iron Man game

EA's Motive studio had a slow start, beginning as a support studio on Battlefront 2 before spending some time working on its own IP, which was later cancelled. The studio had its first hit with Star Wars: Squadrons, and is impressing us again with the Dead Space Remake, due out in January. Next, Motive will be moving on to an Iron Man game, which Motive's head recently shared a few more details about.

In an interview with Eurogamer, EA Motive's Patrick Klaus discussed the studio's early days and its rise to success within the company. Motive will have its biggest challenge yet with the upcoming Iron Man game, and the studio is looking to take things up to “a whole new level” with this title.

“It's the opportunity of a lifetime, taking a beloved superhero IP and having the opportunity over the coming years to do a fully-fledged big AAA action-adventure game within the fantasy of Iron Man”, Klaus said. “We take it very seriously. It's also a little bit daunting, right? Because it is going to be big, and there's going to be a lot of expectations from millions of players. We're going to keep the thread that I'd say has become part of our DNA – to treat the IP with both confidence and humility, and passion.”

Motive's Iron Man game is still in pre-production, where the team is trying out new gameplay ideas and solidifying its creative vision. One goal the team has is to find ways to differentiate its Iron Man game from other huge Marvel titles that have been released in recent years while maintaining “compelling storytelling”.

Iron Man was announced earlier this year as part of an effort to both get ahead of leaks and recruit developers for the team. EA Motive has had quick turnaround times with Star Wars Squadrons and Dead Space Remake, but we would expect Iron Man to take a bit longer. It most definitely won't be a 2023 title, but hopefully, we'll get small peeks into the development cycle along the way, as Motive has given us with Dead Space Remake throughout this year.

KitGuru Says: EA Motive has impressed with its releases so far and even though we've yet to play Dead Space Remake, everything we've seen up to this point has looked very good. Hopefully, this run of success will continue with Iron Man in the years ahead.
