Sonic Frontiers goes Gold

Sonic the Hedgehog video games have historically been known to suffer from tight development times and have as a consequence often been rather buggy at launch. Hopefully this will not be the case with Sonic Frontiers as the game has now gone Gold with weeks to spare.

Morio Kishimoto, the game director for Sonic Frontiers took to Twitter to say (as translated by DeepL) “We've completed mastering all the hardware! We haven't been able to feedback all of your feedback, but we did everything we could until the very last minute before the deadline.”

Kishimoto continued, “Now, with a sense of relief, I feel a little sad. After all, we've known each other for five years. Now! It's time to start the next job!”

Going Gold means the game is pretty much complete barring a plethora of bug fixes and final tweaks. Of course, in an era where almost all games receive post-launch bug fixes and patches, going Gold is not as vital as it once was, but the milestone is still encouraging, especially as recent Sonic games have historically launched in less-than-stellar conditions. Kishimoto’ statement seems to be imbued with confidence, and so hopefully Sonic Frontiers does launch in a good state.
