Capcom has been focusing on remaking the mainline, numbered Resident Evil titles in recent years. However, after Resident Evil 4, the door may open for another fan-favourite game to get the remake treatment – Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
While Code Veronica sounds like a spin-off, it is part of the mainline Resident Evil series. Set shortly after Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 3, Code Veronica features Chris and Claire Redfield trapped on a prison island when the T-Virus breaks out.
According to Resident Evil 4 Remake producer, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the team may consider a Code Veronica remake after RE4 releases next year. In an interview with Noisy Pixel, Hirabayashi said that he would like to work on Code Veronica if the opportunity arises, but right now, there are no concrete plans in place. Interestingly, this news comes just months after a fan remake project was announced.
Capcom will no doubt be looking for fan feedback on this, so if there is demand for Code Veronica to return, then they may tackle that next. Currently, Capcom has not announced any more Resident Evil Remakes, so we don't know when the company plans to stop. Originally, the goal was to go through all the classic titles, but perhaps we'll also see Resident Evil 5 & 6 to bring those games up to the modern standards set by the remakes, as well as the most recent Resident Evil trilogy.
