RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPUs are being sold as desktop graphics cards

We've recently seen quite a few cases of laptop GPUs being used for desktop graphics cards, particularly in China. Recently, an AIB partner known as Sheli took the mobile RTX 3070 Ti and began selling it as a desktop graphics card.

The AliExpress listing (via VideoCardz) of the Sheli 51 Risc graphics card shares the same specifications as the mobile variant. It uses a GA104 GPU with 5,888 CUDA cores and 8GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 14Gbps. The GPU-Z screenshot shared on the listing shows the GPU comes with a base clock of 910MHz and boosts up to 1410MHz, falling within the laptop GPU clock range. The TDP, however, is set at 220W, considerably higher than laptop variants (80-125W) but lower than the fully enabled GA104-based cards (290W).

According to the Geek3D Furmark benchmark shown on the listing, the maximum temperature hits 64ºC, which is pretty good. No gaming benchmark results were shared, but the specifications suggest it should perform similarly to your average RTX 3070 Ti mobile laptop.

Because it's not an official Nvidia SKU, you'll have to use mobile drivers and 3rd-party software to make the card work. The card itself has a dark grey shroud and a dual-fan cooling solution with a dual-slot design. Like most cards nowadays, it has a perforated backplate for better passive cooling. To power the card, there's a single 8-pin power connector.

Available for £375 at AliExpress, the Sheli 51 Risc graphics card is easily more affordable than your average RTX 3070 Ti desktop GPU. However, without testing it, it's hard to pick the better deal in terms of performance.

KitGuru says: If Sheli is adapting RTX 3070 Ti mobile GPUs to work on desktop systems, other Chinese AIB partners should also be able to do the same. The question left unanswered is if that's even worth it. That can be hard to tell without any performance numbers.
