The Nioh franchise has shipped over 7 million units

For the month of November, those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus Essential will be privy to a number of free games, including 2020’s action souls-like Nioh 2. In the wake of this, the team confirmed that the Nioh duology has so far shipped over 7 million units since 2017.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Team Ninja account revealed “The #Nioh franchise has now surpassed 7 million units shipped worldwide! We'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported us over the years with the release of #Nioh in Feb. 2017 & #Nioh2 in Mar. 2020. We hope you look forward to future Team NINJA Studio projects!”

As mentioned, the first Nioh game released back in February 2017 as a PlayStation exclusive, with the game going on to sell 3 million copies within its first 3 years on the market. The game’s sequel – Nioh 2 – followed suit in March 2020, with the game going on to sell over 2 million copies in its first year alone.

There are currently no plans for a Nioh 3, with Team Ninja instead working on a number of other projects including Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and the PlayStation 5 exclusive ‘Rise of the Rōnin’. That being said, considering the Nioh franchise has sold 7 million copies between just two games, it’s safe to say that we have not seen the last of this series.
