Valve’s Neon Prime could be another Dota spin-off

It has been a while since Valve last released a game, and even longer since the company started a new IP. While it initially looked like an upcoming game called Neon Prime would be a totally new series from Valve, a recent report claims it will be set in the Dota universe.

According to Tyler McVicker (formerly Valve News Network), Neon Prime is ‘likely' a DOTA spin-off with a sci-fi spin. The sci-fi part lines up with what we previously heard about the game. When the trademark first came out, a former Valve employee revealed that the company had been working on a ship-building game inspired by FTL.

While the game may be related to DOTA, it will take place in different dimensions, and won't feature FPS gameplay. Unfortunately, that is all the information that is out there for now.

With Valve's trademark becoming public, it should only be a matter of time before the game gets announced. With that said, this is still Valve, and they typically are unafraid to drop projects at a moment's notice.

KitGuru Says: Dota is Valve's big money maker but the company has already had two unsuccessful spin-off attempts with Artifact and Underworlds. Both games had fans, but ultimately, they were scrapped after release. Whatever Neon Prime ends up being, hopefully, Valve actually sticks with it for the long haul.
