There seems to be a bit of a trend with Epic Games Store exclusives – many of us don't realise the games exist until they eventually land on Steam. That is the case for me with Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, which has now landed on Steam after a period of Epic Games exclusivity.
Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria was first announced in 2022 as part of an Epic Games reveal event. It eventually released on PS5 and PC via Epic Games in October 2023, sandwiched between a few of the biggest releases of last year. Now, around 10 months later, the game is landing on both Xbox Series X/S and Steam.
The release isn't the only noteworthy thing here though. The game, which is the first ever to be set in the 4th Age of Middle-Earth, has also received a massive new update, known as the ‘Golden Update', which crams in a ton of new content and a new game mode.
As part of the Steam launch, the game is being discounted for a limited time, bringing the price down to around £17. Throughout the game, you and your band of dwarves will travel deep into the Moria mines, gathering materials, crafting and collecting special artefacts. With the latest update, you can also play the new Sandbox mode, which encourages more nonlinear gameplay, with more varied map layouts and random elements.
The new update also includes new weapons, armour sets and building objects so you can flesh out your Dwarven fortress.

KitGuru Says: If you're a fan of LOTR, this may be worth checking out, although some of the gameplay I've seen does look a little janky.
