Naughty Dog’s next game will be “structured more like a TV show”

Naughty Dog have consistently pushed the video game medium forward by borrowing many aspects from other forms of media and expertly weaving it into a video game format. According to co-president Neil Druckmann, the team’s next game will take this notion even further, being “structured more like a TV show.”

In an interview with The New Yorker, Naughty Dog co-president and writer/director for The Last of Us / Part II discussed his next as-of-right-now-unannounced project, to which Druckmann claimed that it would be “structured more like a TV show” than any previous Naughty Dog title.

Following some confusion, Druckmann took to Twitter to clarify his statement, saying “I’m sure no one will misconstrue what this means! (Spoiler: it’s about making our games in an even more collaborative manner! Stoked to show you our projects as soon as we can!)”

Without going into any spoilers, The Last of Us Part II took many creative decisions when it came to the structure of its game, subverting expectations and making a video game which did not feel like a game – in the best way possible. Regardless of what exactly “structured more like a TV show” means, it is safe to assume that Druckmann’s next game will attempt to once again push video games forward. We will have to wait and see.
