2018’s God of War has sold over 23 million copies

God of War Ragnarök is just a few short days away, and ahead of the game’s release, Sony has released some stats on the previous title, revealing that 2018's God of War has now sold over 23 million units.

Around this time last year, Sony Santa Monica revealed that 2018’s God of War had sold just shy of 20 million copies, making it one of the best-selling first-party PlayStation games of all time. Since then, the game has come to PC, allowing many more players the chance to try this game of the year winner.

Though specific PC sales figures have not been shared, Sony’s recent earnings report detailed the fact that since its release on the 20th of April 2018, God of War has now sold over 23 million units.

While not all video game publishers release concrete sales data for its titles, from what we do know, God of War is now in the top 50 best-selling games of all time, behind Mario Kart DS (23,600,000) and right in line with Red Dead Redemption 2 (which has also sold 23 million).

While God of War is now available on PC it is worth noting that the game has only found its way onto the platform within the past year, meaning that the game likely has much more sales potential moving forward.

Regardless of how God of War performs in the future, there is no denying that the game was a massive success, and undeniably helped to save the – then – struggling franchise.
