Avengers Winter Soldier update goes live with AIM Cloning Lab

Despite the game’s reception, Crystal Dynamics have continued to slowly but surely update Marvel’s Avengers with new free content more than two years after launch. As part of the game’s 2.7 update, alongside the arrival of The Winter Soldier, players will be able to take on MODOK in the Cloning Lab.

Marvel’s Avenger’s 2.7 Winter Soldier update is going live today, allowing you to play as the villain-turned-hero Bucky Barnes (AKA The Winter Soldier AKA The White Wolf) – the 12th playable character.

Alongside The Winter Soldier, update 2.7 also includes the arrival of the Cloning Lab, letting you take on an Omega-Level Threat in the form of MODOK. As described in Crystal Dynamic’s blog post, “Monica has revived MODOK but was unable to bring him under her control. The monstrous genius has now taken over AIM’s Cloning Lab, AIM’s most precious base and the source of the cloned villains that have plagued the Avengers. From there MODOK intends to take back up his crusade against powered individuals and you must stop him once and for all before he can put his plans into action.”

Designed as end-game content, this AIM base will see you “facing off one last time against MODOK in a grand multiplayer fight” who has “developed new tactics since players confronted him in San Francisco, and is designed to test our heroes in this new four-against-one fight.”

Early reactions to the Cloning Lab’s trailer seem to be lukewarm, though with the update going live today, hopefully concerns are alleviated once fans get their hands on Marvel’s Avengers version 2.7. If nothing else, at least the update is free.
