Final Fantasy 16 will be a PS5 exclusive for at least six months

Since its initial announcement, we've known that Final Fantasy 16 is set to be a PS5 exclusive, at least for a certain period of time. The latest trailer of the game has revealed how long we'll be waiting before seeing the game on other platforms.

A note in the latest trailer for Final Fantasy 16 reveals that it will be a PS5 exclusive for at least 6 months. Typically, this would mean that the game will come to Xbox and PC after that time period, but as we saw with Final Fantasy VII Remake – this isn't always the case.

For now, Final Fantasy 16 is a timed PS5 exclusive for six months. Initially, Final Fantasy VII Remake was also a PlayStation timed exclusive, but as the deal came to an end, Square Enix and Sony extended it. To date, Final Fantasy VII Remake has not been released on Xbox, and it only just arrived on PC in December 2021, so don't pencil in a launch for other platforms just yet.

Still, the shorter timed exclusivity period is encouraging. The Final Fantasy franchise is one of the biggest in gaming with fans across all platforms, so there will be a lot of people without PS5s waiting on this game. Hopefully, Square Enix has a quick turnaround time for the title on other platforms.

At this point, development on Final Fantasy 16 has almost wrapped up, with the team primarily focusing on bug fixes and polishing ahead of its Summer 2023 release date.
