Dark Souls Remastered on PC is back online after 9 months

All the way back in early 2022, the PC servers for a number of Dark Souls titles were taken down due to a major exploit in the system which could allow for one’s PC to be remotely accessed by others. Following the return of the PC servers for Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls II, their predecessor is now also back online.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Dark Souls account said ”Online features for the PC version of #DarkSouls: Remastered have been reactivated. Thank you once again for your patience, understanding, and support.”

As mentioned last time, the original release of Dark Souls – the Prepare to Die Edition – will not ever have its servers turned back online, with the team explaining “We have determined that we will not be able to support online services for the PC version of Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition that was released in 2012, due to an aging system. We apologize for the long wait and ask for your understanding in this matter.”

The exploit found within the Dark Souls titles was quite serious, and so as frustrating as it may have been for fans of these games, time was needed in order to ensure that such an exploit cannot happen again. It is good to see that all three Dark Souls titles are now back online meaning PC players can once again experience these games as intended.
