CD Projekt Red learned a lot after making the first Witcher game. While that title is looked back on fondly by hardcore fans of the series, it is inaccessible to most due to never getting a console release, not to mention the outdated visuals and gameplay. Fortunately, a remake is on the way, and CD Projekt Red has now confirmed it will feature an open-world.
As previously announced in October, The Witcher is getting a remake. The remake will use the same tools as the new Witcher trilogy, which is moving on from Red Engine to Unreal Engine 5. The original Witcher released back in 2007 for PC, using an old BioWare engine. The game's combat is timing-based, turning the experience into more of a rhythm game rather than an action game. The original game also featured more open areas than The Witcher 2, but the technology wasn't there at the time to build a true open world, something that has now changed almost a decade later.
In its latest earnings call, CD Projekt CEO, Adam Kiciński, confirmed that the remake will feature an open world map, something that the company first introduced with The Witcher 3. While The Witcher featured large level zones, it was not a true open world, and with The Witcher 2, CD Projekt Red opted to build a more linear game with a better combat system.
While not confirmed, the remake will likely also feature a completely revamped combat system, possibly in keeping with any changes the studio plans to introduce for the new Witcher trilogy. As for when we'll get to play The Witcher remake, the game is still years off from release, so there is a long wait ahead.

KitGuru Says: The Witcher has a great story campaign, but its gameplay and graphics can be offputting to many fans of the newer games. Additionally, the first game never got a console release, meaning this remake will allow a huge number of players to pick it up for the first time.
