It has been quite some time since we last had an update on Payday 3. The game was announced back in 2020, and funding and publishing for the game was secured in 2021. The game entered full production earlier this year and according to Starbreeze CEO, Tobias Sjögren, the game is on track to launch next year.
Tobias Sjögren, Starbreeze CEO, recently spoke with IGN, giving us an update on Payday 3's development. According to Sjögren, the game is “coming along really well” and will be releasing in 2023, assuming there are no delays in the new year.
Earlier this year during a Reddit AMA, some of the team behind Payday 3 answered a number of fan questions, confirming that the game is currently in full production and aiming for a 2023 release date. While the game began development as an Unreal Engine 4 project, the team was considering moving over to Unreal Engine 5 earlier this year. Given how popular UE5 is becoming amongst developers, we would assume that they ultimately chose to move over to the newer version of the engine.
Unfortunately, that is all the information we have for now, but if the game really is on track for a 2023 launch, we should start to see more substantial announcements and gameplay in the first half of next year.
KitGuru Says: Unfortunately, it looks like this year will end without a good look at Payday 3, which has me doubting whether this really will arrive in 2023. A delay for a project that only secured funding last year would not be surprising.
