Final Fantasy XIV is one of Square Enix’s most successful titles in recent years, with the highly popular MMO remaining stronger than ever more than a decade on from its initial launch. With the game finally available on Xbox consoles, FFXIV’s director has revealed ongoing plans to bring the MMO to Nintendo systems next.
In an interview conducted by GameReactor, Naoki Yoshida (Yoshi-P) – the director and producer for Final Fantasy 14 and 16 respectively – revealed current and ongoing plans to bring the popular MMO to “Nintendo consoles,” saying:
“I'm sure that all of the media and our players probably suspecting they really want to have our game release on Nintendo's consoles, but the concept that we have for Final Fantasy XIV is to release our game on as many devices as possible.”
Yoshida continued, “So looking towards achieving that goal. We are working towards, making progress and we are having discussions. So I hope that everyone can look forward to news in the time to come.”
Based on the careful wording, it seems clear that Yoshida is referring not to the current Nintendo Switch, but the long-rumoured and all-but-confirmed Switch successor.
That said, considering FFXIV first launched on the PlayStation 3, Square Enix may be working on bringing the game to both current and future Nintendo hardware. We will have to wait and see.
