It looks like Ubisoft has angered a lot of early Star Wars Outlaws players on PS5, particularly those who paid for the £100+ ultimate edition for early access. The version of the game that released last week had a number of bugs, including progression-blocking issues. A patch won't fix it for save files generated on the previous game version, forcing Ubisoft to ask that PS5 players start the game over again on a fresh save.
In a message sent out to PS5 owners of the game, Ubisoft encourages all players to install the new V1.000.002 update, which includes a number of fixes to address progression blocking bugs and other issues. For some inexplicable reason though, these fixes can't be applied to launch-day save files on PS5 specifically. That means all PS5 players have to start the game over again from scratch, with many players having already sunk in a significant amount of hours over the weekend.
It is a pretty disastrous situation for Ubisoft, as no gamer enjoys abandoning a save file. However, as the issue is only impacting the PS5 version of the game, it is possible that the problem is caused by something on Sony's end.
Over on the game's subreddit, there are many complaints, particularly as some paid a lot of extra money to get access to the game three days early. Players also aren't happy with Ubisoft's response, as absolutely nothing has been offered to affected players to make up for their lost time. Typically in a scenario like this, there would be a token gesture, usually in the form of an in-game cosmetic.

KitGuru Says: If you've only played an hour or two, then this will be an inconvenience but not the end of the world. However, those who have already made significant story progress may just put the game down entirely if they hit a progression-blocker. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a spike in physical copies of the game hitting the second-hand market due to this.
