Sonic Frontiers has sold 2.5 million copies in one month

Sonic has had a tumultuous life, from the highest of highs to some of the lowest lows. After the less-than-stellar reception to 2017’s Sonic Forces, the developers at SEGA seem to have redeemed themselves, with the newly released Sonic Frontiers already selling over 2.5 million copies.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official SEGA of Japan account revealed that “Sonic Frontiers sells over 2.5 million copies worldwide” – a major achievement for the game which is barely a month old.

Following the critical panning of 2017’s Sonic Forces, Sonic Team took their time to reinvent the formula for the Blue Blur – later unveiling their ‘open zone’ approach for the series’ future.

While in no way perfect, Frontiers is one of the best 3D Sonic titles in years, and it is only going to improve further, with the team reiterating the fact that:

“More ‘Sonic Frontiers’ free content coming your way in 2023!” The content in question will include new challenges, a photo mode; a jukebox; new Koco; but most excitingly, multiple new playable characters.

With Sonic Frontiers already selling so well in just one month, it will be highly interesting to see just how many copies will have sold by the time the free DLC releases.
