Since the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, we have seen a great many developers release next-gen updates for previously-published titles. Some have been paid and others free. In a surprise announcement, the hit indie game Night in the Woods has gotten a free next-gen update.
Making the announcement on Twitter, Night in the Woods publisher ‘Finji’ said “Upgrades, people. Upgrades. Overland and Night in the Woods are now available natively on PlayStation 5, running at a delicious 4K/60. Existing PlayStation 4 owners get the PlayStation 5 version for free.”
Finji then elaborated on the specifics of this update, revealing that trophies will not be shared between the two versions nor will save data.
One respondent asked “Xbox Series?” to which Finji claimed that “These titles are available on Xbox Series consoles as Xbox One native games” – suggesting that there are no plans for the Xbox versions to get updated, at least for now.
Of course, both Night in the Woods and Overland are relatively small titles – neither of which tax the consoles’ hardware. Still, getting a PS5 version is certainly welcome, and helps both games’ unique art styles to pop.
