Mortal Shell is one of the better known Souls-like titles. The action-RPG which “tests your sanity and resilience in a shattered world” released back in August 2020 to a warm reception from fans of the genre. Since then, the game has been improved with next-gen support and an expansion. Now, in a surprise move, Mortal Shell: Complete Edition has come to Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo is currently hosting a House of Indies holiday event where the console manufacturer announces and highlights new and upcoming Switch titles released by indie studios. Day 1 of the event saw the announcement and subsequent immediate release of Mortal Shell: Complete Edition.
For the uninitiated, Mortal Shell is a Souls-like action title from developer Cold Symmetry in which you “Explore a deep action-RPG that tests your sanity and resilience in a shattered world. Your adversaries spare no mercy, with survival demanding superior awareness, precision, and instincts.”
The Complete Edition comes with the base game and all its post-launch content, including the “game-altering Virtuous Cycle expansion – an entirely new roguelike mode that brings random and repeatable savagery to Fallgrim” as well as the Rotten Autumn update – adding unique Shell shades; a new mini-quest; a new photo mode; and an alternative boss fight soundtrack.
It is always interesting to see how Switch ports of modern titles compare to their more powerful counterparts. Hopefully the game is able to maintain a consistent frame rate. Mortal Shell is available to purchase on Nintendo Switch for £24.99.
