One of the best ways to entice players to re-experience your titles is to add a New Game Plus mode, allowing them to play through the story while keeping all the character progress from the initial playthrough. As with 2018’s God of War, Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that Ragnarok will get a New Game Plus mode early next year.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Sony Santa Monica account said “We know many of you have been asking, so we’re happy to confirm that New Game Plus will be coming to #GodofWarRagnarok in Spring 2023! We’ll share more details once we get closer to the release!”
To many, adding New Game Plus seems like a rather trivial affair, but studios have in the past discussed the many considerations needed to be made when designing a New Game Plus mode, with Cyberpunk 2077’s Lead Level Designer, Miles Tost, previously explaining why CP2077 does not feature a New Game Plus option, saying:
“NG+ for CP2077 is an incredibly complex feature to make. It's rebalancing the entire game (enemies, equipment, items) and tons of testing/tweaking; there's many skill checks in gameplay and dialogues, what happens here? How'd we handle/balance attribute + perk points?”
Considering all this, it is exciting to see Sony Santa Monica committed to bringing NG+ to God of War Ragnarök – even if we do have to wait a few more months.
