Intel Core i9-13980HX breaks the 30K mark in Cinebench R23

Videos of laptops using Intel's new flagship mobile processor have started to trickle out, with initial data suggesting this CPU could be very capable indeed. Unfortunately, gaming performance hasn't yet been tested as the GPU powering these laptops is still under embargo. However, we are able to share results of CPU-only benchmarks like Cinebench…

MSI allowed Jarrod's Tech to test the Core i9-13980HX-equipped GE78 Raider and GT77 Titan ahead of the average user. Due to the RTX 4090 laptop GPUs inside these machines still being under embargo, Jarrod wasn't able to test the systems' gaming performance. However, that didn't stop him from running a CPU-only synthetic benchmark like Cinebench R23.

With a single-core score of 2,135 points, the Intel Core i9-13980HX is the fastest mobile processor to date. That was expected, considering the Core i9-12950/80HX was the previous record holder (coming in 6% slower). The most surprising part is how much faster is the 13th Gen Core CPU in the multi-core test. Compared to the Intel Core i9-12950HX, the all-core score increased by 30%, scoring 30,498 points. That's around the same as a 32C/64T AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX workstation processor.

MSI laptops with RTX 40 GPUs are expected to release starting February 8th. MSRP isn't yet known, but we're not expecting these machines to be cheap by an means.

KitGuru says: Intel's new chip doesn't seem to bring any significant performance improvement in the single-core department, so we'll be interested to see how gaming performance compared. However, the extra eight E-cores seem to make a significant difference in workloads that can use all cores on the CPU.
