Assassin’s Creed Valhalla wins world’s first Grammy award for video game soundtrack

This year's Grammy show was special to the video games industry. It was the first to include the Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media award, which was given to the composer of Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök's original soundtrack.

Various games have been nominated for a Grammy in the past few years, including Kirby in 2021 for the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or Acapella award and Civilization IV in 2011 for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists award. However, this year was the first time we had one category dedicated to video game soundtracks.

The Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media award “recognizes excellence in score soundtrack albums comprised predominately of original scores and created specifically for, or as a companion to, a current video game or other interactive media released within the qualification period”.

Of all nominees, which included Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy and Old World, the winner was Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök.

The composer behind the winning music piece is Stephanie Economou, who also worked on the soundtrack for AC Valhalla's other DLC, The Siege of Paris, the Netflix series Jupiter's Legacy and other TV series.
