Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom might cost $70 according to official Nintendo shop

With the release of the 9th generation of consoles, we have seen the upper base price of games shift from $60 to $70, with console manufacturers and publishers using the new hardware as justification. With the Switch releasing during the 8th generation, Nintendo has opted to keep its games at $60 – though this may change with the release of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

As discovered and reported by ReserEra user ‘–R’ Nintendo updated its listing for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead of today’s Nintendo Direct, setting the price for the Switch title at $69.99 – a first for the console manufacturer.

The prices on the store listing has since been removed, meaning this was either a pricing error (unlikely) or the listing was published slightly ahead of time – with the revelation planned to go live following the conclusion of tonight’s Nintendo Direct. Either way, we won’t have long to wait to find out whether Nintendo is jumping the gun on raising the price of its games.

The upcoming Nintendo Direct is set to go live at 10PM today UK time and will run for roughly 40 minutes, with the console manufacturer claiming that it will be “mostly focused on Nintendo Switch games launching in the first half of 2023.”
