Pokémon Scarlet/Violet becomes 4th best-selling game in the series in 6 weeks

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has become somewhat of a game of opposites. Despite being the lowest rated mainline entry in the series history due to many technical issues, Scarlet and Violet managed to become the fastest selling game in Nintendo history both domestically and worldwide – and not just on the Switch. Now, it has been revealed that the controversial game has officially sold over 20 million copies in less than two months.

Nintendo recently updated its fiscal reports, revealing that within the game’s first 6 weeks on the market, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet managed to sell over 20.61 million copies, making it already the 4th best-selling Pokémon game of all time – only behind Gold/Silver (23.7 million); Sword/Shield (25.7 million) and Red/Green/Blue (31.4 million).

With how quickly Scarlet and Violet managed to hit this figure, it seems almost impossible for the game to not inevitably become the best-selling in the entire franchise – which would mark a huge moment as despite its popularity, the 1st generation of games continue to be the best selling for now.

For some comparison’s sake, the prior generation of Pokémon – that being Sword and Shield – managed to sell 16 million copies during its first 6 weeks, eventually going on to be the second-best selling title in the franchise.

It seems that despite the many issues it suffers from, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is proving that the series does not need to change one bit. All that said, hopefully the previously-announced update set to arrive later this month fixes some of the many issues.
