Alan Wake 2 is now playable from start to finish

In 2021, Remedy confirmed that its next major project would be Alan Wake 2, with the team finally returning to its horror franchise after more than a decade. We didn't hear much about the game through 2022, but it does seem to be on track for its planned 2023 release date, as the developers have hit a new milestone.

As part of Remedy's most recent investors report, the studio revealed that “Alan Wake 2 is in full production”. Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala, also added that the game is “playable from start to finish”, marking a pretty big milestone in development.

With the game now playable, the team will dial in on balancing and bug squashing, while also making adjustments wherever they see fit to polish up the product. Alan Wake 2 does not have a final release date yet, but the game is targeting a 2023 launch. If we had to guess, we'd pencil this game in for some time in Q4.

While Alan Wake 2 is making good progress, Remedy did also note that Alan Wake Remastered has still not yet sold enough copies to generate royalty payments for the studio. Sales could pick up though once marketing begins for Alan Wake 2, as new and returning players will be looking to run through the first game in preparation for the sequel.

KitGuru Says: We still have very few official details on Alan Wake 2 but assuming development remains on track, we should finally start to see gameplay and news updates over the summer.
