Here's the latest addition to Noctua's popular NH-L9 line of low-profile CPU coolers: the new NH-L9a-AM5 and NH-L9a-AM5 chromax.black. With just 37mm of height, both models are aimed towards silent, ultra-compact HTPCs and Small Form Factor systems using AMD's new AM5-based Ryzen CPUs.
Receiving over 100 awards, the original NH-L9a coolers for AM3 and AM4 have proven to be quite good at their job. As such, the new AM5 revision uses the same tried-and-true heatsink design, providing excellent low-profile cooling performance for AMD's latest Ryzen processors.
With a height of only 37mm, the standard NH-L9a-AM5 is suitable for ultra-compact cases. Its small footprint allows for 100% RAM and PCIe compatibility and easy access to ports close to the socket, even on closely packed mini-ITX motherboards. The NH-L9a-AM5 runs near silently due to the NF-A9x14 92mm PWM fan it includes. Mounting is also relatively simple thanks to the custom-designed SecuFirm2TM mounting mechanism for the AM5 socket. The chromax.black version combines all these with a sleek stealth appearance, thanks to its black fan and black-coated heatsink. Both versions include a tube of Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound.
In addition to the CPU coolers, Noctua also unveiled the optional NA-FD1 fan duct kit to bridge the gap between the cooler and the perforated side panels of an SFF chassis. This allows the cooler to take in fresh air from the outside, improving CPU temps by up to 5°C or more, depending on the arrangement. The NH-L9a-AM5 is now available for €49.90/$44.90. The chromax.black version comes in at €59.90/$54.90.
