While Warner Bros executives had high hopes for live-service games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus, the company's biggest hits in recent years have all been single-player games, the biggest of which was none other than Hogwarts Legacy. Now, WB is looking to put a Hogwarts Legacy sequel on the fast track.
While Hogwarts Legacy was the best selling game of 2023, there has been little buzz around a potential sequel. Now, that is beginning to change, with Warner Bros. Discovery CFO, Gunnar Wiedenfels, telling Variety that Hogwarts Legacy is “one of the biggest priorities” over the next few years.
While a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is seemingly being planned, we don't know how long development will take, or if development on such a project has even begun. As good as the first game was, there is room for improvement, so an ambitious sequel with more fleshed out RPG elements could take quite some time to make.
Hogwarts Legacy went on to become WB Games' fastest-selling game ever, with over 22 million copies sold in 2023 alone. WB's outlook on games has sunk since then, having lost hundreds of millions on Rocksteady's Suicide Squad game.

KitGuru Says: We can only hope that single-player games like Hogwarts Legacy will continue to be a priority. Live service games are too expensive and take too long to make, and beyond that, the wider gaming market seems ready to move on. It is very similar to the downfall of subscription-based MMOs, with just a few standout games remaining in that market.
