Warner Bros. accidentally(?) announces Mortal Kombat 12 with 2023 release year

NetherRealm Studios is one of Warner Bros. premiere video game developers, known best for their work on the Mortal Kombat and Injustice fighting game franchises. Following the launch of MK11 in 2019, NetherRealm has been slowly teasing the team’s next game. In a surprise move however, Warner Bros. themselves – in what might have been a premature announcement – revealed that NetherRealm’s next game is Mortal Kombat 12 and that it will release in 2023.

As recorded by Twitter user ‘GuiLeena’ during the Warner Bros. Discovery Fourth Quarter 2022 Earnings Call, one company executive claimed that “There’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections.”

As mentioned, NetherRealm has been slowly but surely teasing their next game, with studio head Ed Boon on multiple occasions remaining vague for the sake of excitement and hype. It is incredibly uncommon for major video game releases to be announced and detailed in such a way as MK12 has been, which is what suggests that this may have been unintentional or a mere slip of the tongue.

Either way, it will be interesting to see how NetherRealm goes about showing off the game when it is officially officially announced at some point in the future.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Was it intentional? Are you excited for Mortal Kombat 12 or would you have liked Injustice 3? Let us know down below.
