God of War Ragnarök has already sold over 11 million copies

One of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusives of 2022 was God of War Ragnarök. The sequel to 2018’s Game of the Year winner took two games worth of story and jam packed it into a bombastic and action-heavy sequel. This seems to have resonated with fans as in less than 3 months Ragnarök has already shifted 11 million units.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Sony Santa Monic revealed the impressive figure, saying “We’re incredibly humbled that #GodofWarRagnarok has officially sold through 11 million copies! None of this would be possible without the support of our fans, so thank you for coming on this journey with us!”

Being a sequel to one of the PlayStation 4’s biggest titles, it was clear that Ragnarök would be a major game for Sony. Even so, its rapid success is worth noting, as 2018’s God of War took a little over 12 months to surpass 10 million copies sold – making it the best-selling God of War title at the time.

Since then 2018’s God of War has gone on to shift over 23 million copies as of late last year, meaning Ragnarök still has a long way to go in order to surpass it. That said, considering the sequel is currently selling at a rate 4X faster than its predecessor, it would not be surprising to see Ragnarök reach 25 million copies sooner rather than later.
