Company behind Insidious, The Purge and more announces new gaming division

Over the past many years, Blumhouse Productions have made a name for themselves in the horror genre, having produced many of the most prominent and well known horror films in the past decade or so, including the likes of Paranormal Activity; Get out; Unfriended and Sinister – to name just a few. After dominating the film industry, Blumhouse have now announced that they are expanding into video games.

As reported by Bloody-Disgusting. Blumhouse Productions have announced that they are expanding into the video game space, launching a subsidiary focused on the publishing of video games.

From what we know so far, Blumhouse is set to partner with indie game studios in order to see these new creations come to life. Blumhouse will publish games for PC, consoles as well as mobile – with the projects all planned to be relatively small in scope, costing below $10m per game. This is in alignment with the production company’s ethos for its films, opting to make 10 horror films at $10m each as opposed to going for huge $100m blockbusters.

Speaking to Bloody-Disgusting, Zach Wood – Blumhouse Games’ President – said “Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life. There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent.”

Wood is a long-time video games industry veteran, having produced games for over a quarter of a century on a whole host of platforms from the original Game Boy all the way to the PlayStation 5. With Wood’s knowledge of the video games industry and Blumhouse’s expertise in the horror genre, there is a great deal of potential for this newly-announced initiative. Hopefully this helps to bring the horror genre to new heights within the video games medium. We will have to wait and see.
