EA has reportedly cancelled a new Titanfall game

Over the last couple of years, there have been rumours that Respawn is working on a new single-player game set in the Titanfall/Apex Legends universe. The good news is, it seems the project was indeed real, the bad news is that EA reportedly cancelled this game recently. 

According to Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, the game, which wasn't publicly announced yet, was being worked on by roughly 50 people at Respawn Entertainment. However, the game has now been cancelled, alongside the likes of Battlefield Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile. According to the report, some members of the team will be reassigned to other projects, while others may be laid off.

The game was being developed under the codename ‘TFL', which stands for Titanfall Legends, indicating that this game would help tie together Titanfall and Apex Legends in some way. Respawn showed that it is capable of delivering outstanding FPS campaigns with Titanfall 2, but unfortunately, Titanfall has been put on the back burner since then, with the majority of Respawn now focusing on Apex instead.

Whether or not Respawn will start over with a new Titanfall project remains to be seen. It is also worth noting that Respawn has grown significantly since becoming part of EA, with multiple teams working on projects both big and small. Aside from Titanfall and Apex Legends, Respawn also works on the Star Wars Jedi games, including 2019's Fallen Order and its upcoming sequel, which is launching in April.

KitGuru Says: Titanfall 2 had such a good campaign and it continues to be hugely disappointing that we've not seen a Titanfall 3. Hopefully one day Respawn gets to bring Titanfall back to the forefront, but it won't be happening in the immediate future.
