Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League requires always-online connection in single player

As part of Sony’s recent State of Play, fans were given an in-depth look at the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – a co-op action-adventure open-world game. While the title can be fully played solo – with the co-op nature merely being additive to the experience – it has now been confirmed that even when in single-player, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will require an always-online connection.

In going to their website, you can find dozens of answers to some of the most frequently asked questions, ranging from “will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have in-game purchases?” (yes) to “will Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have a Battle Pass?” (also yes).

In an unfortunate revelation, one of the questions asked was “is an internet connection required to play Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League?” to which Rocksteady responded: “Yes, an internet connection is required to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League solo or via online co-op.”

It is highly unfortunate to see that even in playing solo you will need to be connected to the internet. This poses issues for portable devices such as the Steam Deck as well as those with a shoddy internet connection (or none at all).

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is in no way the first game to include such a form of DRM, and it certainly won’t be the last. We already know that Arkane’s open-world co-op shooter Redfall will also require an always-online connection even when playing solo.

While yes, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League does emphasise cooperative play, the game is said to be entirely playable in singleplayer and so it is disappointing to see that even when going solo an always-online connection is required. Hopefully this decision is reversed prior to the game’s launch.
