The Outer Worlds is finally getting upgraded for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC

Back in late 2022, we began seeing leaks for The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition, a new version of the game with visual upgrades for new-gen consoles and PC. It has been months since then and the leaks had all but been forgotten. That changes today, with Obsidian officially announcing the new version of the game and detailing its enhancements.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition includes the base game and both DLCs. You can expect improved graphics, including better particle effects and volumetric lighting. PS5 players will also benefit from adaptive trigger support and enhanced haptic feedback – presumably, these features will also be present if you use a DualSense controller with the PC version of the game.

This new version of The Outer Worlds will also run at 4K/60FPS on Xbox Series X and PS5. The Xbox Series S version will likely also target 60 frames per second, but at a lower target resolution.

The downside here is that this is not a free upgrade. If you already own The Outer Worlds on PC, Xbox or PlayStation, as well as the DLCs, then you can upgrade to the Spacer's Choice Edition for £5. Typically, paid upgrades like this have not been well received and it doesn't sound like the visual upgrade will bring that much to the table.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition will be available starting on the 7th of March.

KitGuru Says: I never played The Outer Worlds' two DLCs, so I've been looking forward to this for a while. Unfortunately, the paid upgrade side to this has taken the wind out of those sails a bit. What do you think of the new Outer Worlds upgrade?
