The System Shock remake has been in the works for a long time now, but launch is just around the corner. With the game releasing next month, the developers have released a demo, giving players free access to the game's first level.
If you've never played System Shock before and are curious what the fuss is about, or if you just want to see what the remake looks like first hand before buying, then you can now download the free demo on Steam. The demo includes the game's first level with no other restrictions.
System Shock originally released in the 90s, giving birth to the genre we now know as the ‘immersive sim'. Games like Prey, Deus Ex and BioShock have all taken inspiration from this game to varying degrees.
The remake is developed by Nightdive Studios and has been in the works since 2015. Initially, the game was set to be rebuilt on the Unity Engine but somewhere along the way, the team switched over to Unreal Engine instead. The game doesn't have an exact release date, but it is set to launch sometime in March. The demo is already available as of today.
