Windows 11 latest update introduces new AI features

Microsoft is taking the next big step forward in Windows 11 by introducing new features. These include a typable Windows search box, the new AI-powered Bing straight into the taskbar, smartphone link improvements, the ability to record using the snipping tool, and many more.

Although Microsoft is marketing the new typable search box (basically Windows 10 search bar) as being “AI-powered”, that's not entirely the case. Typing a query into the search box and hitting Enter will open the Edge browser and show you the output of the search if your Microsoft account has access to the new Bing chatbot. That's not much different from Windows 10's search box or searching directly from the Bing address bar. In all three scenarios, you'll get similar results.

However, there are some features which aren't a letdown. For example, the new Windows notepad version introduces tabs, allowing multiple files to be opened on a single window. Microsoft also introduced the ability to record using the snipping tool, allowing you to record only a section of the screen. The downside of this handy feature is that the app only lets you save files in MP4.

In the latest build, the AI-powered Windows Studio Effects (eye contact, background blur, automatic framing and voice focus) also received some love. Those who've updated their Windows 11 OS can now adjust Windows Studio Effects directly from the taskbar in quick settings. In addition, Microsoft also integrated the call enhancement tool into Microsoft Teams.

Other features introduced include a new preview of the iPhone Link feature, which allows you to connect your iPhone to the PC to receive calls and texts and access iCloud photos, and a new version of Android Phone Link that enables users to turn on the mobile hotspot from within Windows on Samsung devices.

Lastly, the new build brings new widgets for Phone Link, Xbox Game Pass and Spotify, energy-saving tips, redesigned Quick Assist app, the ability to collapse the taskbar, new accessibility features like braille display support, AI-powered File recommendations on the Start menu, and a Windows 365 App. If you're interested in Windows 11's new features, you can get them with build 22621.1344, now available to download on your system.
