Nvidia continues to dominate in Steam Hardware Survey results

Given that the vast majority of PC gamers use Steam, Valve's Steam Hardware Survey usually offers a decent look at PC hardware trends and adoption. The February 2023 Steam Hardware Survey results have now been shared and it looks like new-gen GPUs from Nvidia are finally starting to be more widely used, although AMD's RX 7900 series has yet to appear on the list.

As pointed out by Videocardz, months on from the initial launch, the RTX 4080 has finally appeared in the Steam Hardware Survey results. The RTX 4090 obtained a 0.31% market share in February 2023, while the RTX 4080 obtained a 0.20% share and finally, the RTX 4070 Ti appeared for the first time with an 0.18% share.

The interesting thing here is that the RTX 4090 is the most popular of the three in the survey, despite being the most expensive by quite some margin. We would expect the cheaper RTX 4070 Ti and future RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 series graphics cards to surpass the RTX 4090 eventually.

Interestingly, AMD's new RX 7900 series graphics cards don't appear on the results list at all. That's not to say nobody is using these graphics cards for gaming on Steam, as the Hardware Survey is opt-in, so it doesn't cover the entire user base. Still, we would have expected to see at least one of these GPUs on the list.

The Steam Hardware Survey also continues to show a high disparity between the number of AMD users versus Nvidia, with the results giving Nvidia more than 75% market share, with AMD sitting at just under 15%. The GTX 1650 continues to be the most-used graphics card, with 6.12% market share, followed by the GTX 1080, the RTX 2060, the RTX 3060 and the GTX 1050 Ti to round out the top five most-used GPUs.

If we take a look at the most used screen resolution amongst Steam gamers, 1080p still remains at the top, with more than 64% of users yet to move beyond the FHD standard. For dual-screen setups, 1080p also remains the most popular resolution.

KitGuru Says: While the RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX have yet to appear, we are starting to see deals on the RX 7900 XT, bringing the price down below MSRP. With that in mind, perhaps we'll see one or two of these appear in next month's Steam Hardware Survey results.
