PlayStation have not released too many mobile games, especially in recent years. That said, a new Sackboy was announced for the platform and went into Early Access during Spring of 2021. After almost two years, Ultimate Sackboy is now available globally on both Android and iOS.
Ultimate Sackboy is a sequel to 2014’s Run Sackboy Run – a runner game in the style of Temple Run or Subway Surfers. Unsurprisingly, this sequel takes inspiration from the PlayStation 5 launch title “Sackboy: A Big Adventure” with the game featuring similar visual assets while also sharing OSTs.
As is the case with the mainline games, Sackboy is highly customisable letting you “collect, customise and dress up with thousands of clothing combinations to unlock and upgrade. With a growing catalogue of clothing options being added all the time.”
While Ultimate Sackboy is a free-to-play game, a Season Pass has already been announced (costing £6.99) and includes “the famously rare Astronaut costume, which historically is only available for early players of all previous LittleBigPlanet games”. Each Season will last 28 days, meaning you don’t have long to unlock the collectibles.
The mobile platform is highly capable and would undoubtedly be able to play many modern games. While it is a shame that Sony have not yet committed to bringing console-quality games to the platform, it is welcome nonetheless to see them support it in any capacity.
