Returnal has weak PC launch

Returnal officially made its way to PC last week just over 18 months on from its debut on PS5. As the first PS5 exclusive to make its way over to PC, we were expecting a little more noise around its release, but there has been very little movement on the marketing front. This is reflected in the game's launch numbers, which are the lowest of Sony's recent slate of PC releases.

While titles like God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered impressed with launch sales and high peak concurrent player counts, Returnal has had a very quiet launch. The game, which became available on Steam on the 15th of February, launched with a peak concurrent player count of 6,744 players.

The peak comes in lower than Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which finally arrived in October last year after months of delays. While there was disappointment around this release due to the lack of PC ports for the original Uncharted trilogy, it still managed to garner a peak concurrent player count above 10,000.

While Returnal is off to a slow start, it did also launch in close proximity to Hogwarts Legacy, which has dominated sales charts this month. With that in mind, we'd expect Returnal sales to pick up a bit over the year as the game starts appearing in Steam sales.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
