Deathloop’s trajectory has been rather interesting. Initially announced as a PlayStation console exclusive, the Arkane Lyon-developed first-person immersive sim would later fall under the Microsoft umbrella following their acquisition of Zenimax Media (which included Bethesda). One year after its initial September 2021 release, Deathloop was brought over to Xbox Series X|S. 6 months following that, the team has now announced that Deathloop has officially surpassed 5 million players.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Deathloop page said “5 Million Players! Thank you for joining us on this adventure to Blackreef. We hope you enjoyed your stay. To celebrate, we’ve gathered some statistics on how you’ve spent your time on the island.”
The stats released offer interesting insight into the behaviour of players, with Arkane revealing both Colt’s and Julianna’s most-used trinkets. Perhaps even more interesting however is the revelation that players have in totality used the movement ability ‘Shift’ enough times to take 7 whole round trips to the moon and back.
Additionally, with over 2.8 Billion shots fired, when lined up end-to-end the bullets would stretch around the entire Earth 3.2 times while weighing as much as 4.2 Eiffel Towers.
5 million players is an impressive figure for any game but it is worth noting that Deathloop is available on both PlayStation Plus Extra as well as Xbox Game Pass, meaning its reach is quite wide. Still, the more people play Deathloop the better, and so it is exciting for Arkane to have such a hit on their hands.
