Earlier this month, well-known industry insider Jeff Grubb claimed that Sony was set to announce a State of Play for the end of February – and that a full-blown PlayStation Showcase would take place at some point prior to E3. With the State of Play having come and gone, many are looking ahead to this alleged PlayStation Showcase. Grubb has now offered more on the event, claiming that it will “set up the second phase of PlayStation 5.”
As part of his ‘Game Mess’ podcast, industry insider Jeff Grubb spoke on the leaked upcoming PlayStation Showcase, comparing it to the recent State of Play and saying ”Sony itself is saving its own actual good stuff for something else which is what's happening here, they're saving their good stuff for the PlayStation Showcase that's gonna happen before E3.”
Interestingly, according to Grubb, “It was supposed to happen last Fall but they kept pushing it back cause their developers weren't ready, but now that those developers are ready, they're going to have a massive show that really sets up the second phase of the PlayStation 5.”
The PlayStation 5 has entered its 3rd year on the market and while it feels like only yesterday that the console came out, it makes sense that Sony would be preparing for their second phase. With such a strong first few years on the market, it will be exciting to see what the console manufacturer has planned for 2023 and beyond.
