Next Level Games is remastering F-Zero GX according to leaker

Nintendo owns some of the most iconic video game IPs, however many of them have not seen any new entries in years – or even decades. One such franchise is F-Zero: the hyperfast futuristic racing series. Almost 20 years after its last entry, the series is reportedly set to make a grand return with a remaster of the much-loved GameCube entry F-Zero GX.

As reported by YouTube channel Nintendo Prime, the futuristic racing franchise F-Zero is set to make its long-awaited return with them claiming that “I have come in contact with people that have informed me that F-Zero GX remaster…is actually in development by Next Level Games.”

Offering some more information on the current goings on at the studio behind the likes of Mario Strikers and Luigi’s Mansion, Nintendo Prime claimed that Next Level Games “actually have two teams making two entirely different games. This first game is obviously F-Zero GX Remaster.”

For the uninitiated, F-Zero GX released all the way back in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube and represents one of the last games in the series to have been developed. Despite its age, the game still looks good to this day and offered many impressive features at the time such as the aforementioned hyperfast speeds as well as huge 30-player races.

According to Nintendo Prime, the remaster will be similar to the recently-released Metroid Prime – meaning that it will be a lot closer to a remake than a remaster, offering much more than just a simple resolution bump. Furthermore, while not confirmed, the game will almost certainly offer online multiplayer, making it the first game to include the feature. Of course, this should all be taken with a pinch of salt, but if it is indeed true, then F-Zero fans will finally have something to look forward to after such a long hiatus.
