Venom actor claims Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 is releasing in September

Ever since the game was first announced back in 2021, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Aside from the initial reveal trailer, nothing has been shown, with the studio later confirming that the game is planned for release sometime this ‘Fall’. Thanks to the voice actor for Venom, we now have a much more concrete window – including when we can expect to hear more official news.

Back when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first revealed, it was announced that the game’s primary protagonist Venom would be played by Tony Todd of Candyman fame. While Insomniac Games themselves have remained tight-lipped on the status of the upcoming game, Todd has shared multiple updates of him in motion capture studios, and has not been afraid to engage with fans online.

Following his most recent post on Twitter (which saw the actor share an image of him in the ‘Mocap Mainframe’), one fan replied with “Can’t come quick enough Spider Man 2” to which Todd surprisingly responded:

“Looks like September! Massive publicity coming in August. Commercials start dropping in August so I’m told. Hold on to your … and hold breath! Gonna be necessary.”

2018’s Spider-Man released in September of that year and so it makes sense that Insomniac Games would want to hit a similar time frame – especially as the first game (alongside Miles Morales) ended up selling over 33 million copies.

Leakers have claimed that Sony is prepping for a major showcase sometime during the E3 time period, and so hopefully we get our first proper look at the game there – followed by the aforementioned marketing in August.
