PS5 sales increase by over 300% in February

Due to a whole host of factors, when the PlayStation 5 was first released in late 2020, it suffered from a great deal of stock shortages – putting a heavy hamper on the system’s sales. Finally, in January Sony claimed that 2023 would be the year when the PS5 no longer suffers from stock issues. It seems this is indeed the case, as February’s sales have shown Sony’s console up by over 300% year-on-year.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, 2023 looks set to be a huge year for Sony as the PlayStation 5 has been selling like hotcakes ever since the console saw its stock shortages reduced. January saw the system increase its sales by 202% compared to January of last year. February has seen the console reach even higher highs as in the UK the PS5 saw a huge increase in sales of 316% compared to this time last year.

January was not a great month for Xbox, however this is improving somewhat with February’s console sales being up 15% compared to February 2022. The Nintendo Switch meanwhile did not see such growth, with the console sales dropping by 29% compared to this time last year. Of course, the Nintendo Switch is nearing its end-of-life and so this slowdown does make sense.

When Sony said that more PS5s would be available this year, it seems as though they really meant it. With two straight months of huge growth, it will be highly interesting to see how many units are sold by the end of the year.
