Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake reportedly set to be announced at E3

After many years away, Konami seems set to be slowly but surely re-entering the video games industry. So far, the publisher has focused on bringing many of its old 2D classics to modern systems such as was the case with the Castlevania Collection. Rather excitingly however, it seems as though the company may soon be set to unveil their most ambitious remaster/remake yet.

As reported by industry insider Andy Robinson via the VGC podcast, it was claimed that publisher Konami is set to have a “pretty big E3” thanks to the return of some much-loved classic franchises.

According to Robinson, two of the biggest announcements planned for the June event include a brand new Castlevania title, saying “There's a new Castlevania in addition to the Dead Cells DLC they announced at The Game Awards”. No further details were shared, meaning the title in question could take the form of a classic-styled 2D entry, or we could see Konami take another stab at making a 3D Castlevania.

For some, the most exciting report came in the claim that “there's this much discussed Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, which I also expect them to finally show”. Again, no further details were shared, but we have heard many murmurs over the years surrounding the notion of a remake for Metal Gear Solid 3.

The MGS series has been inextricably tied to its creator Hideo Kojima and so while not a new entry, it will be interesting to see what approach is taken with this remake considering the bad blood between Konami and Kojima.

Furthermore, remakes can take many forms, from one-to-one recreations such as we have seen with the likes of Demon’s Souls and The Last of Us Part 1, to remakes which lean much closer to reimaginings (such as Final Fantasy VII Remake). Regardless of which approach is taken, it is safe to say that Metal Gear Solid fans have been woefully underfed in recent years, and so a new entry in any form is certainly exciting.
