Xbox’s Fable reboot is still reportedly ‘miles away’

While the Fable reboot was only officially announced in 2020, we had known about the project for two years prior thanks to leaks. At this point, the game has been in development for at least four years, but it seems the game is still not close to release.

Prior to the Xbox Series X launch, many had speculated that Fable would end up being a 2023 title, or possibly 2024. According to Andy Robinson on the VGC podcast, that isn't the case, as the game is still “miles away”.

According to Robinson, of the big announced exclusives in development at Xbox, Hellblade 2 and Avowed are “the closest” to release. Much like Perfect Dark and Everwild, Fable is still some ways off from being complete and apparently only recently entered full production.

We've heard in the past that Fable went through development troubles, supposedly in part due to being developed with the Forza Tech engine, which was primarily built for racing games and not open-world RPGs. At the rate things are currently going, this could very well end up being a late-generation game for Xbox, despite being one of the first exclusives to be announced for the Series X/S.

KitGuru Says: It is becoming increasingly clear that Microsoft announced more than a few upcoming games too soon. The pandemic won't have helped matters and likely slowed down progress on several of these projects. If you've been waiting on Fable, be prepared to wait a few years longer.
