Since launching in 2019, Epic Games has run free game giveaways on a regular basis. If you're wondering how many free games get claimed, the numbers are pretty staggering. It turns out in 2022 alone, Epic gave away nearly 700 million games.
Over the course of 2022, Epic ran giveaways for 99 games, with a total value of $2,240 is you were to buy each title individually at its usual price. Over the course of the year “nearly 700 million” free games were claimed by Epic Games Store users. As the weekly giveaways continue to be successful, Epic is planning to continue the tradition throughout 2023.
The Epic Games Store 2022 Year in Review blog also reveals a few other interesting stats. At this point, more than 230 million users have the Epic Games Store on their PC, and there are almost 725 million Epic cross-platform accounts. December 2022 was a particularly big month for Epic, with the company garnering 68 million active users that month.
As far as revenue goes, the Epic Games Store achieved $820 million in revenue last year, strictly coming from PC players purchasing games on EGS. Third-party titles on the Epic Games Store generated $355 million.
In the year ahead, Epic is planning a number of improvements to its platform. For starters, it wants to enable third-party subscription services on EGS, and it wants to add content hubs to flesh out store pages further and allow developers to post updates, similar to Steam's own community system.
