Ubisoft will bring offline modes to The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest after backlash

Earlier this year, Ubisoft sparked backlash after it took its original open-world racing game, The Crew, offline and went as far as removing the game entirely from digital libraries. To avoid making the exact same mistake with The Crew 2 and the more recent game, The Crew Motorfest, Ubisoft has announced plans to introduce offline modes.

Both The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest will be getting an offline play mode to “ensure long-term access to both titles”. Additionally, the developers have committed to releasing more content for both games in the future.

Stéphane Beley, senior creative director of The Crew franchise, explained this in a statement, saying:

“We want to acknowledge that some of you voiced concern about the access to The Crew games. Today, we want to express our commitment to the future of The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest. We are currently exploring different solutions, and can confirm an offline mode to ensure long-term access to both titles.”

There is no timeline yet on when this offline mode will be made available, but hopefully there will be an update on that before the end of the year. The whole debacle with The Crew should also hopefully serve as a lesson for future Ubisoft titles – include an offline mode, people tend to not like having products they paid for taken away, especially when there is little reason for it to require an internet connection.
