Streets of Rage 4 gets massive free update with 300+ changes

Streets of Rage 4 came as a huge surprise to long-time fans of the side-scrolling beat ‘em up franchise. After being absent for so long the series came back with a vengeance in 2020 bigger and better than ever. In another surprise, the game has now received a free update with new content, moves and hundreds of smaller changes.

Making the surprise announcement on Twitter, Streets of Rage 4 developer Dotemu revealed that “Streets of Rage 4 unleashes today with a new MAJOR & FREE update:

• New co-op moves
• +300 in-game improvements
• Brand-new custom survival mode for its DLC
• A 50% discount across Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch for a limited time only!”

The full list of changes is highly extensive and can be found HERE, but would be far too lengthy to go into right now. That said, it would appear as though pretty much every single playable character has had a rework – affecting combos, hitboxes, active frames and so much more.

Characters aside, this update also brings with it changes to enemies making some moves more visually clear while also buffing others.

The full list of changes is incredibly lengthy and takes what was already an excellent game and refines it further. Hopefully other developers take note of the dedication that Dotemu have for their games.
