Ubisoft has been rather good in ensuring many of its previously published titles get updated with some level of support for the new generation of consoles. We have already seen a whole host of games get their free upgrades including multiple Assassin’s Creed titles, Rainbow Six and more. Unfortunately, the only Far Cry game with PS5 and Series X|S support is 2021’s Far Cry 6 – though this is soon set to change.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Far Cry account teased that fans can expect 2018’s Far Cry 5 to get an update as part of the game’s impending 5th anniversary, saying:
“Let's celebrate the 5th anniversary of #FarCry5! Over the next three weeks, celebrate the 5th Anniversary with us. Stay tuned for what's to come, including a highly requested feature for next-gen consoles.”
With the announcement that Far Cry 5 will get a next-gen patch, many are hoping that the “highly requested” feature is a 60fps option. While this would certainly be beneficial, and would do a great deal to modernise the game for current consoles, adding a 60fps option is basically a given. In drawing attention to this upcoming patch, hopefully the update comes with more than just a framerate boost, and in fact is a full current-gen release with its own SKU. We don't have long to wait in order to find out.
