Xbox exclusive ‘Quantum Break’ is leaving Game Pass

Typically, all of Xbox's modern exclusive games are available through Game Pass and it is extremely rare to see one of these games removed from the service. It has happened once before with Forza Horizon due to expiring licenses. Now, it seems to be happening again, but this time it is Remedy's Quantum Break leaving the service.

Remedy developed Quantum Break for the Xbox One, attempting to create a game/TV show hybrid, with episodes of the show sprinkled between action-packed levels. At the time, the Xbox One was struggling and Quantum Break ended up being viewed as a relic from Microsoft's TV-obsessed era. However, in my opinion, it was actually a really solid action game with fun gameplay and an intriguing plot. Much of what made Quantum Break fun was refined for Control, the game Remedy moved on to immediately after Quantum Break.

For reasons left unexplained, Quantum Break is leaving Xbox Game Pass, despite being an Xbox exclusive. An exact date for the game's removal has not been announced yet, but it will be disappearing later this month.

The specific reasons behind this move are unclear. It could be due to expiring licenses related to music or the depiction of certain actors. This could also be in preparation to give Quantum Break back to Remedy, as the company wants to build a connected universe between its games. We've already seen this at play with Control and Alan Wake, which have both crossed over. Microsoft gave the Alan Wake IP back to Remedy in recent years, so perhaps Quantum Break is also going back to Remedy for future projects.

KitGuru Says: Chances are, not many people were downloading Quantum Break through Game Pass anyway, as the game rarely gets mentioned nowadays. In fact, this announcement might be the first time you've thought about the game since its 2016 release. Still, it is always a shame to see an exclusive game leaving the Game Pass library.
